Fernanda Montenegro partnered with Itaú Unibanco to celebrate the milestone of her 80-year career alongside the bank’s 100th anniversary, with a unique and free public presentation of her acclaimed reading of an excerpt from “A Ceremony of Farewell” by Simone de Beauvoir (1908–1986). The text, which explores the French philosopher’s libertarian perspective on feminism and her lifelong relationship with philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre (1905–1980), was performed by Fernanda Montenegro during a special season in São Paulo, also sponsored by the bank. All ten thousand tickets sold out in less than three hours.
The one-night-only presentation took place on August 18 at 7:00 p.m., free of charge, at the Ibirapuera Auditorium – Oscar Niemeyer. The performance was staged in the amphitheater and featured high-definition sound and image projection toward the iconic lawn behind the venue, one of São Paulo’s most recognized landmarks.
As expected, the event became the largest audience of Fernanda Montenegro’s career and a historic milestone in her professional trajectory, earning a Guinness World Record as the largest audience ever recorded for a philosophical reading.
An achievement fully aligned with the legacy of Brazil’s greatest actress.
